The fearless head chef at Kenilworth’s Ego restaurant and bar has jumped 13,000 feet out of a plane to raise hundreds of pounds for Baby Lifeline.

Paul Stevenson, who was originally on target to leap a mere 10,000 feet, made the jump with friend Ian Carroll to boost funds for the Kenilworth-based national charity which helps vulnerable babies.

The parachute jump was the last in a series of fund raising initiatives organised by the daredevil chef to raise money for the charity.

The last venture saw him create a special sorbet as an optional fundraising extra in the summer and organise two raffles to win an Ego meal for two with a bottle of wine worth up to £75.

Paul was inspired to take part in the parachute jump, which netted £400, after Baby Lifeline held a fund raising dinner at the restaurant earlier this year which raised £2,700 towards life saving equipment for Warwick Hospital’s maternity and special care baby units.

“It was amazing,” said Paul. “The weather was perfect. We set out to raise money for Baby Lifeline because it’s such a worthwhile charity which does incredible work for tiny babies. Then we got carried away after our initial plan to do a parachute jump, and decided to branch into sorbets and raffles.”

The latest sum will go towards Baby Lifeline’s £12,000 target to buy three intravenous pumps for Warwick Hospital’s special care baby unit.
